Socioecologies and Economies of Migration

There are countless ways to see the world. Instead of living in black or white, to exist in the grey or rather to exist in the prism, is tranquil, liberating and rightfully dazzling. If we can see how others see, we would all see more colours. We are infinite and we are one.

Please enjoy some seaweed, and remember that as the seaweed provides a home for fish and other saltwater enthusiasts, we (all humankind) should provide a home for people, and become improved.

In the boundless expanse of existence, one may always discover a path that leads to the illumination of goodness.

The main issue for me was people being very individualistic, stuck in their own cocoon. We may not be aware of what's going on in the world such as the exploitation of resources that the first world tends to take away from third world countries. This leads to environmental degradation, which overtime will affect us all. For my solution I really think people need to step out of their comfort zone, whether it be traveling to different places to learn more about what others go through or to come up with policies that can prevent third world exploitation. Immigrants want to come here because they feel it is safer, there are more programs and services to help them, and because we are more developed. I think the solution relies on the impact in their own country so that they don't have to go to extremes to find a safe environment to be in. Meaning that policies would allow third world countries to become more developed and restrict first world countries from ruining their environments for money. The impact of this would be long lasting because they would be able to keep revenue in their country and to maybe be able to bring back life to the environment that was harmed. At the end of my artwork you can see the person has a face and wants to break out of the cocoon in order to work with the community. We need to be able to rely on one another to change the way the world works. One person can make a change but it takes an army of people to bring that change faster. The future is only there for us if we can save the planet from ignorance and greed. Breaking out of our cocoons helps us be aware of the issues going on and to think about choices that affect people on a global scale and not just in our own cities.
One person can make a change but it takes an army of people to bring that change faster.

The butterfly wing is a metaphor for transformation. We emerge from our cacoons with a renewed sense of self, we may see life differently and are enlightened from old paradigms/belief systems that no longer serve us.

We must nurture the world that cares for us.

I believe that colours of sunrise are signs of hope and connection to a greater world in which we can imagine possibilities outside of oppressive structures. The sun is a symbol of tender resistance through connection to one another.

The meaning behind my artwork depicts the disconnect between society. The flowers are a representation of us humans on earth and how we are figuritovley apart of the same garden and share the same resources. The shatter throughout the image is meant to represent the disconnect between society. While we are in the same garden we are disconnected from one another and I wanted to create an image that can depict that idea. Over the years society has gotten so disconnected from one another especially after the COVID 19 pandemic. Many of society has not been able to recover and they now deal with anxiety around being with others. I see this disconnect hugely in school especially in the classrooms, so many of my peers suffer from social anxiety and have a hard time creating friends. Even when we are put into groups many rarely speak. Despite us being in the same garden we couldnt be further apart.

“If you are drowning in 20 feet of water or 10 feet of water, you are still drowning, the only difference is the time it may take to swim up” - Metaphor I made from an analogy I read.
